Free visa ends

FREE visas for trips to Thailand will end this month, but it is not expected to affect tours to Thailand from Shenzhen.

The Thailand Consulate General in Guangzhou will charge 230 yuan (US$35) for visas from April 1, local travel agencies have said.

Botanical congress

THE city is inviting designs for a logo for the 19th International Botanical Congress to be held in 2017 in Shenzhen.

First prize could be as much as 5,000 yuan with 2,000 yuan each for the top three entries.

Designers can send their entries with their personal information to bsc@ibcas.ac.cn. The deadline for entries is April 20. The results will be announced on the China Botanical Science Association s official Web site at www.botany.or.cn and the Shenzhen Botanical Garden s Web site at www.szbg.org.

Death payout

THE family of a tenant who was electrocuted by leaking electricity was paid 180,000 yuan in compensation by the landlord.

Zhang was electrocuted by a water heater when he was taking a shower in his rented apartment in Xixiang, Bao an District, on Jan. 19. He had discovered the electricity leak a week earlier, but his requests for a replacement water heater were ignored by the owner, Feng, who was also fined 12,163 yuan for negligence and failing to register with the leasing management authority.

Fake Apples

THE market supervision authority raided a warehouse which had allegedly been pirating mobile phones including well-known brands such as Apple and Samsung.

Authorities seized 184 mobile phones selling between 200 and 1,000 yuan.

Bus-truck collision

EIGHT passengers were injured in a collision between a truck and a bus in Buji, Longgang District, on Tuesday evening.

The truck carrying sand went out of control on Shuiguan Expressway and into a bus. The bus driver surnamed Ou suspected the truck was overloaded.

The eight passengers sustained minor injuries. Police are investigating.
