A MAN was arrested Sunday night for allegedly causing the death of his premature newborn child, Bao an police said.
The father, identified only by his family name Guo, 46, allegedly tried to bury the baby, who was delivered at seven months, Southern Metropolis Daily said.
Guo was stopped when burying the infant opposite a Wellcome store on Jinxiu Road in Shajing Subdistrict early Friday evening, the paper said, quoting a witness named Xie.
I saw him burying something, Xie said. He looked nervous.
Xie went up to the man and stopped him. I removed the earth from the hole and saw a baby, alive.
Xie said he was appalled. The baby looked really small, smaller than the average newborn. I guessed he was a premature. He called an ambulance which took the infant to Shajing Hospital, the Daily said.
The infant initially survived. Medical staff at Shajing Hospital confirmed he was premature. He was born in this hospital. He was taken away by his father when his mother was still in the labor room, said a doctor.
Guo took the baby out of the hospital again Friday night and the infant died the next day, the Daily said. Guo told police the baby was born to his extramarital girlfriend. It would cost dearly to take care of a premature child and I couldn t afford it, he said.
Guo was married with three children. He would face a charge of murder, police said. (SD News)
