Gas buses
SHENZHEN Bus Group will soon put 280 LNG-powered buses on the road after a handover ceremony of the clean energy vehicles from the manufacturer Wuzhoulong Motors yesterday. The bus group said more than 2,000 environmentally friendly buses, including hybrid and electric buses, would service the Universiade in August.
Tollgates closed
TWO tollgates near the border of Shenzhen and neighboring Huizhou were dismantled Sunday. The Shatian Tollgate along the Shenshan (Shenzhen-Shantou) Expressway and the Liulian Tollgate on Shenhui Road were scrapped Sunday. Chinese language media reported that six other tollgates near the border would also be scrapped by the end of the month.
Polio campaign
ABOUT 324,760 children aged under 3 have been inoculated with poliomyelitis vaccine since the city began administering free vaccine between March 5 and 9. No adverse reactions had been reported. The second round of free vaccine will be distributed at 499 inoculation centers at public hospitals and community health centers between April 5 and 9.
Route to Kolkata
HAINAN Airlines would open an international route from Shenzhen to Kolkata, India, in April, Shenzhen airport sources said.
It would be the second international route opened by the airline in Shenzhen. The first from Hangzhou to Australia via Shenzhen had carried more than 8,000 passengers since it opened Jan. 19.
