SALES of radiation detectors have soared in Shenzhen in the wake of Japan s nuclear disaster.
A store owner in Huaqiangbei, surnamed Tang, said he expected to sell 20 radiation detectors this month, compared with two to three before the crisis in Japan.
Most of the buyers are Japanese living in Shenzhen or Chinese friends of Japanese people, said Tang. Others are Hong Kong people and Chinese living on the northeastern coast near Japan.
Tang said previously his customers were mainly hospital radiology departments and research institutes but, over the past two weeks, the majority of customers were individuals.
More than 10 kinds of radiation detectors suitable for individual use were now on the market, with prices ranging from 300 yuan (US$46) to 5,500 yuan, yesterday s Southern Metropolis Daily reported. (SD News)
