A BURST sewage pipe caused Tuesday s cave-in near the entrance to Daxin Station on the extension of Metro Line 1.
The pipe broke Tuesday night and the sewage swept away the foundations leading to a cave-in about 3 meters from the station, with sewage flowing into the station, the Daily Sunshine reported Thursday.
A 5-meter-deep hole opened over about 10 square meters, which was filled in Wednesday morning.
The cave-in halted traffic on the Xuefu-Taoyuan section of Qianhai Road in Nanshan District. Traffic returned to normal at noon Wednesday.
The broken pipe has been repaired.
Shenzhen Metro Co. Ltd. said an investigation was needed to see what caused the pipe to burst.
