Tollgate relocation

THE Meilin Tollgate on the Meiguan Expressway will be relocated 8 kilometers north near the Qinghua Flyover in September, the Shenzhen transport commission said Wednesday. The commission decided to move the tollgate in April last year, but the relocation was delayed by land requisitions. The relocation is expected to ease traffic congestion at Meilin Checkpoint.

Road facelift

SHENZHEN transport commission will spend 200 million yuan (US$31 million) in improving the view along 25 trunk roads including Shennan Road and Binhe Road this year. The work would include cleaning and repairing road facilities, as well as painting road fences along the roads and on footbridges.

Aquatic sports base

THE construction of the Shenzhen Marine Sports Base had passed quality checks. The sports base will be used for sail board competitions during the Universiade and afterwards it will become the Shenzhen aquatic sports school, enrolling 300 students.

Border crossing

MORE than 2.7 million travellers were expected to cross the border between Shenzhen and Hong Kong between April 2 and 5, the Qingming Festival public holiday. The peak was expected April 5 with more than 730,000 travelers.

Officer attacked

A WOMAN motorist knocked down a police officer after she was given an infringement notice for making an illegal U-turn at an intersection of Nanhai Boulevard on Thursday.

Jiang Meina was confirmed to be a teacher at Nanshan Experimental School. She tore the notice into pieces and drove toward police officer Wang Yujun, Shenzhen traffic police said yesterday. Wang s right leg was injured. Jiang fled but was later caught by police.

PASSENGERS who report green cab drivers for not using meters to charge fares will receive a reward of 50 yuan. Two hotlines 8397-3699 and 8393-8000 were opened to receive complaints.
