THE city human resources and social security bureau said Tuesday that rumors of plans to dismiss all contract employees in government organizations had no foundation.
According to a regulation announced Dec. 31 last year, the bureau would issue three-year contracts and restrict the number of renewals for each of these workers to two.
Known in China as contract employees, they generally have shorter contracts, lower pay and fewer prospects than civil servants.
Dismissals should always observe standards of fairness, so these rumors are not true, an unidentified bureau official told yesterday s Shenzhen Economic Daily.
An online post said recently that, according to inside information, all government organizations would not renew contracts with these employees when they expired.
The post had quickly caused panic among the city s contract employees and sparked heated discussion on online forums of unjust treatment between contract employees and civil servants.
Contract employees are paid a lot less than civil servants and have very limited career prospects. After working for government organizations for a long time, it would be very difficult for them to make their way in the world because of their age, so I strongly suggest the government improve their treatment and create more prospects for them, an unidentified netizen said.
The city has been hiring contract employees for government organizations since 2004. At the end of last year, there were about 4,200 contracted city employees. (Wang Yuanyuan)
