THE Shenzhen Autism Society commenced its sixth Autism Care campaign Saturday, aiming to increase awareness of autism and promote the development of autism rehabilitation.
The one-week campaign would include charity concerts, a sports meet and an exhibition of the autism service industry, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Sunday.
Fifty autism organizations from the Pearl River Delta region issued a self-discipline declaration to promise transparency in revenue and expenditure at Saturday s opening ceremony.
Initiated by the Shenzhen Autism Society and funded by One Foundation, which was established by movie star Jet Li, more than 60 autism organizations formed a network called Heming Network to improve their services for autistic people.
The Shenzhen Autism Society was established in 2001 by parents of autistic children and was registered as a nongovernmental organization in 2005.
On International Autism Day on Saturday, five autistic children, who were treated at Shenzhen Children s Hospital, were each given a 10,000-yuan (US$1,527) donation.
Yan Jiamu, a seasoned teacher involved in autism rehabilitation, said starting treatment of autistic children before the age of four, would be more effective.
