A 3-YEAR-OLD boy is in a critical condition after being seriously burned when he accidentally fell into a lime tank in an industrial zone in Pingshan New Zone on Friday.

The boy, Yang Hao, had burns to 95 percent of his body and was in a life-threatening condition while his father, who jumped into the tank to rescue him, was in a stable condition, doctors at Longgang Central Hospital said.

Yang was playing with other children when he accidentally fell into the tank. The father, Yang Xinbing, 34, a native of Hubei Province, jumped into the tank which was about 100 degrees Celsius.

They were first taken to a Pingshan hospital for emergency treatment and later transferred to Longgang Central Hospital.

Residents said the lime tank had been in operation for two years without any warning of the danger to nearby residents. The operator, 48, surnamed Lin, was being questioned by police. Lin was said to have no license to operate the tank.

Pingshan Subdistrict government criticized the negligence of Zhukeng Community in land management.
