Four of Five Components of Keqiao Textile Index Drop

Write: Rutley [2011-05-20]

Down for only the second time in the last seven weeks, the main gauge on China's Keqiao Textile Index dropped in the latest week, prompted by weaker readings in four of the five sub-indexes. The main index slipped -0.21 to 97.5, pulled lower by losses across the supply chain from raw fibers through apparel accessories. Grey fabric slipped for the second straight week, eroding -0.08 points to 103.48, but still retained the smallest net change on the week. Down for the third time in the last four weeks, the raw materials component shed -0.47 points this week to 90.51, just up from a record low set two weeks ago. The accessories sub-index fell for the fifth time in seven weeks, down -0.24 points to 101.95. The apparel fabrics component saw the steepest decline from last week, falling -0.78 points to 99.63, the lowest point in five weeks. The only increase in price occurred in home textiles, reversing three straight weeks of losses to rebound 0.22 points to 98.23.
