PEI undertakes maintenance shutdown of its ethylene cracker

Panjin Ethylene Industry Corporation (PEI) pulled down the shutters of its 160 kt/per year ethylene cracking plant on August 11 for a maintenance turnaround which will last for a period of 25 days and will be brought back on stream by early September.
The outage came unannounced and was initiated four days before the scheduled plan because of some unprecedented problem faced at the facility and also due to bearish market trends.
Official spokesperson of PEI told Fibre2fashion that the plant is currently closed but is expected to restart very soon. However, the company is yet to decide the date for restarting.
A BTX plant of the corporation would also follow suit and undergo a maintenance turnaround which would last longer than that of the ethylene-cracker. The plant has a benzene capacity of 60 kt/year, toluene capacity of 16 kt/year and a xylene capacity of 9 kt/yr.
Other downstream plants of the corporation have also been closed for a turnaround in the afore mentioned period.
