The Keqiao Textile Index produced by China's Ministry of Commerce registered a sharp increase during week ending May 19 when it reached 97.49, which was up from 93.74 the previous week. The index of conditions as of May 26 fell .04 to 97.45; however, the raw materials subindex rose 5.79 percent to 99.71. The grey fabric subindex increased 1.84 percent to 100.69, while the apparel fabric, home textiles and accessories indexes all slightly declined during the week. The index's rapid rise off the recent lows reflects seasonal increases in textile market activity.
