China : Textile industry in midland China faces dearth of workers

The textile and clothing industry is facing shortage of labourers, as the trend for manufacturing low-priced but quality products has left companies incapable of adopting corporate social responsibility (CSR). However, in order to recruit and sustain workers, many textile and clothing enterprises of midland China have now increased the welfare treatment.
Experts believe, the reason behind this can be the rapid development of Chinese economy, which has increased the demand for labourers, but workers are not much interested to fill in these vacancies as they prefer working in big places like Shanghai, Zhejiang and Guangdong Provinces. It is also learned that young ladies of this region prefer service industry like restaurants to the textile and clothing.
In addition to this, textile and apparel industry workers in Chinese midland cities are earning the lowest salary, which is around RMB 700 a month.
