The fist phase of the 102nd China Import and Export Fair (CIEF), China’s largest trade fair, opens simultaneously at the Pazhou and Liuhua complexes on Oct. 15th. The traditional opening ceremony comprised lion dance, dragon dance and drum playing. “We have put together the most competitive brands for CIEF and 9.7 percent of out exhibitors are here for the fist time,” said a representative for the trading delegation of East China’s Shandong Province. Xu Bing, spokesperson of the fair’s organizing committee and deputy director of the China Foreign Trade Center, said at a press conference on Sunday that 15,054 firms will attend the fair over its two phases, with the total number of booths reaching 32,005—323 more than in the 101st CIEF. A total of 480 overseas companies from 57 countries and regions, including 17 from the world’s least developed nations, are seeking business opportunities to make further inroads into the Chinese market during the first phase of the fair. Further, 7,796 domestic firms will showcase their products in the first phase of the fair, while another 6,778 will take the floor in the second phase from October 25 to 30. Xu said that the fair’s organizing committee attaches very great importance to the quality of the products on show and has taken measures to ensure the same, while taking stringent new steps to protect intellectual property rights.
