Hong Kong : Dilworth's course on Modern RFID technologies, systems design & applications

Write: Hartley [2011-05-20]

Radio Frequency Identification, or RFID, is a technology that uses radio waves to automatically identify goods or people by reading a microchip or tag attached to them.
A typical RFID system is made up of three components: tags, readers & a host computer system. RFID is evolving as a major technology enabler for tracking goods and assets around the world.
The application of RFID is limitless. Examples of RFID applications include, but not limited to:
• Retail
• Asset tracking
• Payment system
• Manufacturing automation
• Product security / Building security
• Supply chain management & inventory control
• Access control & personal identification
• Maintenance
• Ticketing
• Vehicle identification
Use of RFID technology can increase business productivity and reduce associated costs. RFID hardware and software have advanced dramatically in recent years.
Technical staff and managers charged with driving RFID forward within their organizations must understand how to adopt the right technology, the importance of standards developments and emerging industry best practices to complete a successful project.
Who should attend:
• Technology staff involved in developing RFID technology & its applications (tags, readers, antenna)
• Managers & engineers responsible for RFID system integration
• Vendors, suppliers & manufacturers of RFID systems
• Anyone requiring an appreciation of RFID systems & principles

Highlights of the course:
• Up-to-date materials on modern RFID technologies
• Systems design, basic theory, relevant antennas & illustrative circuits
• Essential elements of receiver & transmitter systems design
• Example circuitries for some common types of RFID
• Application examples
• Comprehensive notes
Dr. Ian Dilworth, the course presenter, is a leading practicing RF engineer. He has more than 30 years experience as a practicing consultant including RFID, Antennas, EMC, PCB design, and Radio and RF fields.
He has worked for EMI Ltd UK, COMSAT labs in the USA, CRC (Communications Research Centre) in Canada, SIRIM and Airstar in Malaysia and for Centrepoint technologies in Hong Kong (on private mobile radio location and messaging systems).
He has consulted on RF issues for newspaper's and has designed and delivered RF courses for academia and industry in the U.K, USA, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuwait and U. A. E. The content and delivery of these courses have been universally praised.
Dr. Dilworth is currently an invited RF expert to the European Community. He has acted as a reviewer on many European funded projects including RFID.
In particular 'MAMA = Monitoring fish manufacturing process with Advanced Miniaturised subsystem and radio frequency Apparatus' and also ' LAUREL = LAUNDRY Application Using RFID tags for Enhanced Logistics RF ID tag system.
Dr Dilworth has currently published over 100 academic papers and more than 60 other publications mostly resulting from industrial studies and contracts.
