China : Textile City reports turnover of 50 bn yuan in 2006

Having experienced the ups and downs of the last 20 years, China Textile City in Shaoxing County has become one of the professional textile markets with global impact in the world.

China Textile City in the minds of many people has become a microcosm of Shaoxing County. At present, textile industry accounts for over 70 percent of the gross industrial value of Shaoxing County.

As one of the country's largest production base for textile products, the existence of China Textile City provides the necessary ‘outlet’ for the sales of local textile products and the release of huge production capacity of light textile industrial products.

This leading professional market in the beginning of 2007 submitted its report at the fifth year of China's accession to WTO: the total turnover of China Textile City in 2006 amounted to 50 billion yuan, an increase of about 11 percent compared to 45 billion yuan of the previous year.

Nothing could illustrate achievements better than the objective figures, but this group of figures was achieved in the background of the booming number of various textile and garment markets in the country and fierce competition among them.

A senior official from the local government said, five years ago it might be impossible to expect the achievements made by China Textile City today. Again, today we could not define how far the reaches of China Textile City to spread five year later and how large its battlefield would be.
