Like India, US is also planning to sell cotton to China, the world's top consumer, industry sources informed.

According to monthly report of US Agriculture Department, China's cotton import in 2006-2007 is estimated at 17.25 million bales and India's cotton exports were projected at 4.1 million bales.

US would be world's top exporter of cotton as its exports in 2006-2007 are estimated at 16 million bales.

India has the advantage of having cotton at cheaper rate and lower fright costs in transporting the fiber to its Chinese customers.

The consumption of China is estimated at 50 million bales in 2006-2007 and India's consumption is estimated at 17.8 million bales.
