East African cotton sells well in China

In 2006, the East African cotton sale is very active in the Chinese market. From January to September this year, China imported a total of 40,800 tons of cotton from East Africa, accounting for 18% of East African total cotton exports.

During 2005/06, the main cotton-producing countries of East Africa (Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Uganda and Malawi)exported a total of 227,000 tons of cotton. Among them, Zambia is the country with the largest export volume to China (19,000 tons),accounting for more than 25% of the country's total cotton exports.
