Zhejiang silk export drops sharply

Write: Rois [2011-05-20]

Zhejiang, called as "Silk House", has been the top silk export province in recent years. But after three consecutive years of substantial growth in export, Zhejiang silk export encounters "cold" since this year. For the first eight months, Zhejiang exported 44.82 million meters of silk, declined 27.8% year-on-year.

Statisticians of Ningbo Custom House said that due to the steep fall and rise of domestic raw silk price, India and other countries' constant anti-dumping motions, and the low value-added of Zhejiang export products, Zhejiang silk export leads to decline directly this year.

Reportedly, Indian government has made a preliminary anti-dumping judgment, thus China enterprises including Zhejiang Cathaya were imposed high anti-dumping duties from 57.42% 115.74%. The export to India-Zhejiang s largest silk export market- dropped by 37.6%.

Meanwhile, Zhejiang silk industry faces the steep fall and rise of domestic raw silk prices. Especially from the second half of 2005, the filature silk price rose from 170,000 yuan/ton to 348,000 yuan/ton of early March of this year.

Under the situation of rising international trade friction, various contradictions will become more prominent in Zhejiang textile and silk export. Therefore, Zhejiang silk enterprises must be prepared to cope with it, to open up new international markets actively; At the same time, to enhance product quality and grade, and to increase export.
