Recently, Jiangsu Economy and Trade Committee held a meeting on 2006 Jiangsu textile and garment industry in Jiangyin, encouraging and supporting those textile and garment enterprises with comparative advantage and surplus production capacity, to establish offshore production and processing bases, for the optimization and upgrade of the industry.

Facing the situation that Europe and the United States carry anti-dumping investigations on China's textile and garment industry, some of China's textile and garment enterprises respond actively to build offshore production and processing bases. Participants also discussed on the investment environment and law of related countries and regions.

In recent years, raw materials and textile exports accounted for more than 36% of the total exports of Jiangyin City. In 2005, Jiangyin s raw materials and textile exports reached 1.17 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 36.8% of the city's total exports. Thereinto, textile exports to the United States reached 231 million U.S. dollars, 119 million U.S. dollars of textiles exports to the EU. During the first half of this year, Jiangyin s exports of raw materials and textile products reached 720 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 39.1% year-on-year.
