Beijing, CNCotton: Arrivals of imported cotton at Guangdong port expanded steadily with a surging price during the first quarter of 2006

Import arrivals at Guangdong province surged to 13,000 tons and further expanded to 18,000 in March. These descriptions are mainly from the U.S., Australia and India. U.S. imports totaled 22,000 tons and the other two recorded 7,000, reflecting a year on year growth of 29.8%, 3380% and 1080% respectively. Of the total imports, the amount of general trade was up 170% to 30,000 tons and processing trade totaled 10,000, an increase of only 6.1% from year ago level.
