Agriculture department show that the planting area of cotton is planned to reach about 80million Mu, over 75kilometers/per Mu, the total output of lint over 6million ton.

The decision of Agriculture is made due to demand exceeding supply of inland cotton. The statistic from National Stat Bureau show that in 2005, cotton planting area reach 75.9million Mu, total output 5.7million ton, decreased by 11% and 9.8%; in the same time, national yarn output is 14.4million ton, increased by 11.5%, total cotton consumption about 9.5million ton. On this background, cotton import increase rapidly. At present, cotton is ranked as the third import agriculture product followed with soybean and edible oil.

During 2001-2005, the cotton import reach 5.666million ton (56000ton, 170000ton, 870000ton, 190000ton and 2570000ton), cotton import in 2005 account for 29% of world cotton trade, 27% of inland cotton consumption during the same period.

Agriculture Ministry issue <> and point out that cotton manufacture basis is not firm, cotton manufacture in 2006 should base on resuming increasing cotton planting area, increase technology content, centre on increase production average and fiber quality, promote practical technique vigorously, increase cotton planting benefit as well as synthesized production capacity to meet the demand on material of textile industry and assure the security of cotton.

The concrete objection is : cotton planting area is planned to reach about 80million Mu, over 75kilomteres/Mu , cotton output over 6million ton. The cotton output in Yangtse Rive valley is planned to keep 20million Mu, the one in Huanghe valley increase to 42million Mu, the one in North-west inland cotton increase to 1.8million Mu. Optimize catalogue, quality structure, increase the benefit and competitive capability of cotton planting.
