Sandstorm Hit Northwest

Write: Divya [2011-05-20]

Beijing, CNCotton: A severe sandstorm not seen in years hit a very large part of the Northwest in recent days. Meanwhile, a major cold front has caused temperatures to drop 10-18 degree Celsius, with daily high recording 2 degree Celsius on April 12.

Fortunately, crops have not been damaged as most varieties have not emerged. Local weather forecast said moisture is higher and sandy weather has been very frequent this spring. Local agricultural departments have suggested a later cotton planting to avoid damage by sandstorm and late frost. Planting is estimated to begin around April 20, 5-7 days later than last year.
