Person in charge of MOFCOM Department of Bureau of Fair Trade for Imports and Exports commented on the cross-strait trade dispute on towel and said that the mainland noticed the fact that Taiwan announced to carry out anti-dumping investigation on towel from the Mainland on March 1, 2006 after the notice of Taiwan on September 26, 2005 on launching of investigation on mainland towel for special protection.
We believed in settling the trade friction through negotiation with the gradual development of cross-strait trade and economic relations.
The official pointed out that Taiwan and the mainland were strongly complementary to each other economically.
Firstly, the Mainland was the important market for export of Taiwan textile products, secondly, there were limited output of towel in Taiwan, which could not meet the market demand, but towel from the mainland could ease up the contradiction between supply and demand and also meet the demand of Taiwan market.
The mainland hoped that Taiwan department could consider seriously taking relative measures.
Regarding the difficulties confronted by employees engaging in towel production in Taiwan, we encouraged related industries of Taiwan and the Mainland to enhance dialogue and effectively settled the trade friction properly concerned by Taiwan and the mainland through peaceful negotiation and mutual efforts.
The mainland was willing to take positive and effective measures to assist Taiwan employees in towel production to solve problems.
