From Saturday on, China will adjust consumption tax on quite a few products, including luxurious watches.

In Sogo department store of Beijing, two salesmen were busy changing the price tag on watches. But the salesman of the nearby Rossini counter did not know the price adjustment.

In Xidan, one of Beijings shopping centers, prices of luxurious watches including foreign brands such as Longines and Tissot have not been changed yet. Salesmen said they have heard of the new consumption tax policy, but they will wait for companys further information.

Consumers passed by these watch counters as usual and some stopped to ask the price, or even tried on, but few of them bought the watch.

There was argument on the price of luxurious watches. Employee of Rossini said the 20 percent increase of the consumption tax will affect the sale of watches, but the question is how to define luxurious watches.
