North China: Cotton developing well

Write: Madrona [2011-05-20]

While some reports have shown a deep concern for the poor crop conditions, farmers in the north China plain are reporting a fairly well crop at present.

It is reported that the rain which visited Cangzhou, Hebei province on June 13. has brought some relief for the drought. Farmers said cotton crops are growing much quicker and most of the plants are already 30 cm high. Weather forecast said clear and hot weather will dominate the region starting June 15, which is most welcome for cotton.

Some improvements were also noted in Xinhe county, Hebei province. The previous coldness and drought has eased a bit after a recent shower and crop conditions will improve.

Weather was extremely hot since June in Anyang, Henan province. Temperatures have been as high as 38 Celsius with very little rain. Farmers are currently engaged in irrigation work and they expected a similar crop situation as in 2005.
