China cotton industry's center is moving westwards. Known as "the Pearl of the Gobi," Xinjiang Shihezi City greatly attracts textile enterprises, and it is becoming the main textile industry town of China western region.
Xinjiang is China's largest cotton-producing region, the total cotton output in 2006 is expected to exceed 2 million tons. Shihezi Reclamation Area s annual output is nearly 300,000 tons of cotton. Since 2003, enterprises in the east began to rush into Shihezi City. Among them, Zhejiang Xiongfeng Group invested 3.8 billion yuan to build 550,000 cotton spindles industrial park, and introduce 1000 advanced jet looms; Zhejiang Honsen invested 1.1 billion yuan to build Asia's largest home textile industrial base. Up to now, Shihezi Development Zone s cotton production has totaled 800,000 spindles.
