US: Walmart bumps Target out of top spot for best holiday commercial

Washington - Consumers picked Walmart's holiday campaign as this year's best, displacing Target from the top spot it has held since the annual survey began in 2005.

Target landed at No. 2, according to the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association, a division of the National Retail Federation.

Other companies in the top 10 included:

6. Old Navy

7. Kmart

8. Sears

9. Hallmark

10. Kohl's

Conducted by BigResearch, the survey found 32.8% said the ads had no impact on where they shop and 16.8% cited the ads as motivators to visit a particular store.

For the first time, shoppers were asked to name their favorite online promotion for the season, and the top retailers were Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Kohl's followed by eBay, Macy's, JCPenney, Overstock.com, Sears, Kmart and Old Navy. Some 22.1% said the promotions prompted them to shop on the site, while 27.8% said they were already shopping there.

BigResearch polled 9,929 consumers from Dec. 1-9.
