Ministry of finance (MOF) has started an investigation to check whether import of China-made shoes amounts to dumping after the allegation to the same was put up by domestic shoe manufacturers.

Taiwan is for the second time, starting anti-dumping action against China as it had levied 204.1 percent anti-dumping tax on Chinese towels for five years.

After opening of local market for Chinese footwear in 2003, imports from China have jumped and constitute 80 percent of total imports during the last three years period.

What is worrying is the fact that prices of imported shoes is just one-forth of local products as per the estimates of footwear manufacturing association. This has resulted in severely affecting production and contracted factories loosing orders.

The Ministry will submit its report within 40 days on whether Chinese shoe imports have violated the rules and have affected the local industry.
