Taiwan: Garment Makers Stable after Textile Quota Cancellation

TAIPEI: The garment manufacturers, after the cancellation of the Multi-Fibre Agreement on global quotas more than one year ago, is stabling its business in the industry, sources said here on March 26.

The leading garment manufacturers of the country, Makalot Industrial Co., Tainan Enterprises Co., and Eclat Textile Co., has all experience their production lines fully booked for the first half of the year.

Makalot boosted a 40 per cent annual rise in orders received in the second quarter, and Tainan Enterprises and Eclat both witnessed a 10 per cent growth in the same quarter

Further Makalot indicated that the company's shipments are very likely to reach 1.5 million dozens of garments in the first quarter which could help bring in revenue of $ 79.41 million for the company during that quarter.

Whereas in the second quarter, Makalot is scheduled to receive orders for 1.7 million dozens of garments, an estimated rises of 15 per cent from the first quarter. Further the rise is believed to be mainly from increased orders for pyjamas and cotton pants.

Tainan Enterprises estimated that its shipments of garments in the first quarter of this year might witness a slight annual growth to more than $ 1.71 million as in the second quarter the company expected to see a modest rise of 10-20 per cent in orders because of operational expansions at its plants in Jordan and Cambodia.
