India: Viscose Filament Yarns Exports Up During Aug - SRTEPC

The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) released the review of exports of synthetic and rayon textiles during August 2005.

I. Export Performance
Exports of Synthetic & Rayon textiles were valued Rs.685.88 crores during August 2005, showing a decline of 17.90 percent as compared to the performance in the same month of the previous year. Exports of mostly all the products are showing downfall except for fibres which shows a growth of 60.23 percent.

Fabrics constitute 49 percent of the total exports followed by yarn (25 percent), made-ups (22 percent) and fibre (4 percent). The cumulative export during April-August 2005 was Rs. 2902.20 crores, as against the performance of Rs.3942.63 crores during April-August 2004. During April-August 2005 the export has declined by 26.39 percent in rupee term and 23.25 percent in dollar term.

II. Highlights
Export performance during August 2005 shows a decline of 17.90 percent in rupee term and 12.75 percent in dollar terms. Export of Polyester Filament Fabrics has declined by 40 percent to Rs.165.48 crores when compared with the same month last year.

Blended fabrics like polyester viscose and polyester cotton declined by 10 percent and 33 percent respectively. The exports of Polyester Wool Fabrics which has been shown a considerable fall in the last three month has shown a stupendous growth of 80.54 percent.

Viscose Spun Fabrics has shown a considerable fall of91 percent during August 2005. Major Items of made-ups items like Shawls/Scarves and Blankets have shown a rising trend of 7.85 percent and 23.18 percent respectively. Export of yarns has shown a mixed trend of growth and decline. Polyester partially oriented yarn and Viscose Filament Yarns are showing growth of 5.34 percent and 12.72 percent respectively.

The export data has been compiled from the daily list of Customs of major Sea and Air Ports of India except for Cochin Port and Vishakapatnam Port.

- Polyester Filament yarn and Acrylic Spun Yarn exports were down sharply by 54 percent and 68 percent respectively.

- Exports of Polyester Wool and Nylon Filament have shown a remarkable growth of 81.76 percent and 61.31 percent respectively.

In all the categories staple fibre has shown a growth of 60 percent valued at Rs.26.87 crores.

The major item in staple fibre viz. of polyester staple fibre has increased by 132% and viscose staple fibre has also shown a growth of 38 percent. U.A.E., the largest market for Indian MMF textiles has shown a fall of 24 percent. USA, which witnessed a spectacular growth in 2004, has been showing a declining trend from the start of this year and in August 2005 it has declined by 31 percent.
