In the past few years, China attracted many lavish foreign hypermarkets. Switzerland’s fashion retailer H&M followed ZARA into Shanghai. The first retailing shop of German parity giant C&A in domestic market, also located in Daning International Commercial Plaza, has been gearing up for its opening ceremony.
However, experts believe that in the future there will be more and more middle and high-end boutiques appearing in Shanghai. Therefore foreign funded distribution enterprises in Shanghai will face a new round of ‘surge.’
The relating data show that the daily sales of ZARA boutique in Shanghai reach as much as 800,000 yuan, equivalent to the total daily sales of 80 Chinese apparel brands. Its good performance has attracted many international fashion giants to leer domestic market.
It is learned that H&M will open its second shop in Zhengda Square. Meanwhile, ZARA is going to open its third retail outlet in China. C&A will open four boutiques in Shanghai in the first half of this year.
In December 2004, retail and distribution industry in China opened its door to foreign capital. In March 2006, the Ministry of Commerce shifted part of the auditing authority of foreign-invested enterprises in decentralization industry down to provincial departments. Further simplified approval process resulted in a blowout phenomenon of application numbers.
