India: Dy CM Inaugurates Wool & Woolen Design Center at Srinagar

As a part of major step towards rejuvenation and augmentation of infrastructure of Handloom sector in the state, the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Mangat Ram Sharma inaugurated the Wool and Woolen Design Development Centre of State Handloom Development Corporation constructed at a cost of Rs 1.30 crore at Rambagh here today.

The Centre sanctioned under Prime Minister? Economic Package is equipped with latest technology like chemical and physical testing laboratory, resource room, CAD Lab, workshop and training room.

Speaking at the function, the Deputy Chief Minister said with the improvement in the overall situation in the sub-continent, the trade and economic activities have received a new thrust in our state adding that the measures initiated by the present Government to revive different sectors have started yielding positive results. He said it was heartening to note that the transport and handicrafts sectors are now running on profit.

The Deputy Chief Minister expressed the hope that with the setting up of the wool and woolen center, the handloom sector would undergo a sea change and the artisans and workers would have job opportunity available besides the handloom products would have great demand at the national and international market.

Recounting to the importance of handloom sector, Mr Sharma said that there is tremendous potential available for employment generation and this industry has sustained the economy of the state in crucialtimes.
