China : Textile exports surge 15% in 1Q

Major textile enterprises registered combined profit of 115.8 trillion yuan or US $15 trillion, representing year-on-year rise of 39.5 percent, during the January-February 2007 period.
Number of companies with yearly sales income of atleast five million yuan reached 42,000, 12 percent over the same period last year.
Combined industrial output valued at 3,902 trillion yuan or $507 trillion, up 24.1 percent.
The sector produced 4.17 million tons of yarn, up 21.6 percent, and 10.5 billion meters of fabrics, improvement of 8.1 percent. Its clothing output increased 20.5 percent to 4 billion units and the chemical fiber production climbed 16.9 percent to 5.37 million tons.
In the first quarter of this year, textile export earned $32.2 billion, year-on-year growth of 14.9 percent and imports reached $4.02 billion, up 4.9 percent.
The sector invested more than 39 billion yuan or $5 billion in fixed assets during January-March period, a boost of 31.5 percent.
