BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares started higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index opening at 4,221.58 points, 41.80 points, or 1 percent.

The index, which tracks both yuan-denominated A-shares and foreign currency-denominated B-shares listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, closed at 4,179.78 points on Friday.
