Vietnam: EC Extends Footwear Anti-Dumping Probe Deadline till Aug 1

Shoes & Leather Association of Ho Chi Minh City informed that the European Commission (EC) has given a breather to Vietnamese shoemakers by giving more time to fill out their questionnaires related to the EC? anti-dumping action investigation over Vietnam? leather shoes.

The Commission extended the date to August 1, 2005, from July 25, 2005, for Vietnamese shoemakers file their replies.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese shoemakers are desperately seeking cooperation of companies in Indonesia, to be selected by EC for as proxy economy for comparing price levels, during the conduct of investigation.

Besides Indonesia, Thailand is another potential country that Vietnam wants selected as a proxy in the dumping case.

On July 7, the EU began anti-dumping action over Vietnam? footwear following a complaint filed by its shoemakers, who claimed that Vietnam? leather shoes were being sold at below market prices on the EU market.
