China: EU Halts Accepting License Applications for Trouser Imports

European Union (EU) official stated that Europe has stopped accepting applications for import licenses for trousers made in China following completion of quotas, Monday.

In mid-July, Chinese trouser export besides nine other textile products, came under restriction, when a deal was struck between Europe and China to impose self-restraint on exports of textile goods.

Under the agreement, the quotas are permitted at an annual growth rate of between 8 and 12.5 percent in the ten types of Chinese textiles till the year 2007.

The self-restraint quotas implemented in response to a Chinese textile exports flooded Europe after the elimination of global textile quotas on 1, January 2005.

As per the reports of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles, the China? total textile exports are expected to reach $100 billion this year, up from $95 billion last year.

A clear picture on import patterns will emerge on August 15, the notification deadline for acceptance of licence applications for the textiles affected decided earleir.
