Mr. Xu Wenying, the Vice President of China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) and the Director of China Cotton Textile Association (CCTA) welcomed his guests Madam Carol Skelly, the Fiber Analyst of World Agricultural Outlook Board of the United Stated Department of Agriculture, Mr. James W. Johnson, Agricultural Economist of Foreign Agricultural Service of the United Stated Department of Agriculture, Mr. Wu Xinping, Agricultural Specialist of Agricultural Affairs Office of the Embassy of the United States of America, and Mr. Jorge Sánchez, Agricultural Attaché of the Embassy.
During the trip to Xinjiang for the International Cotton Conference, the four specialists visited CNTAC with dozens of professional questions mainly in the statistics related to China’s cotton share, cotton outputs, cotton yarn outputs and cotton consumption.
Because of the shortage of correctly reported data and scientific statistic methodology, the data officially released by some relevant organizations within China are not consistent with the facts, which makes the foreign counterparts and relevant researchers quite confused about China’s situation.
According to Mr. Xu, as the largest and the most important end user of cotton, CCTA in behalf of the whole industry are working closely with the National Bureau Statistics of China and the National Development and Reform Commission on developing a reasonable methodology for the statistics of China’s cotton share and consumption. And they also welcome any kind of enquires and information exchanges for better understanding.
