Indonesia: Polyester, Fiber & Manmade Yarns Prices Shoot Up Sharply in Asia

Write: Rudrani [2011-05-20]

All across Asia, markets are being forced to adapt higher man made fibre prices despite reported overcapacity in polyester staple fiber production in Taiwan and South Korea that has kept polyester staple prices depressed outside Chinaall due to raw materials going costly. During 2005, Taiwan's man-made fiber production dropped sharply in hopes of generating higher profitability that prompted spurt in prices in recent months.

Yarn and fiber prices in Indinesia saw a rising trend, however. Polyester staple semi-dull 1.5 denier x 38 is now priced at 57.61 U.S. cents per pound; up from 57.15 U.S. cents per pound in August. 65 percent polyester/35 percent cotton yarn prices shot up from US $5 to $15 per 400-pound bale. 55 percent cotton/45percent polyester prices remained satble , except in the 40-counts, which went up $15 per 400-pound bale. 65 percent polyester/35 percent rayon yarns shot up $10 per 400-pound bale. 100 percent rayon yarns are up $5 to $10 per 400-pound bale in practically all counts.
