Chinese documentary brings fashion to Venice

Jia Zhangke's fashion-focused documentary "Inutile" (Wu Yong), had its global premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on Monday, featuring a catwalk show staged by crew members.

The film's production team, led by director Jia Zhangke, walked the red carpet wearing the Wu Yong brand clothing, designed by Ma Ke, the film's protagonist.

Ma Ke herself also attended the premiere.

The designer presented her Wu Yong clothing line at February's Paris Fashion Week, where Jia Zhangke began following her for the film.

The film is a competitor for the Horizons Documentary Prize at the Venice festival.
