During the 16th Urumqi Foreign Economic and Trade Fair, a procurement official from India said that color cotton from Xinjiang is of high quality and inexpensive and thus has a huge market. As a result, many Indian companies plan to import 5,000 tons this year.
Yu Wanchun, executive officer of China Color Cotton Group said that since last year, traders from India, Pakistan and other countries have shown great interest in Xinjiang color cotton.
Xinjiang exported one-third of their total exports to south Asian countries. In this fair, buyers from India and Pakistan inked purchase deals of 8,000 tons of color cotton, worth 197.6 million yuan.
Statistics reveal that China has an annual output of 30,000 tons color cotton, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the world output. Xinjiang color cotton output accounts for 95 percent of the national production, making it the world's largest color cotton production and supply base.
