Surface Science Western(SSW)is the leader in providing surface and materials analysis to industry for helping its clients in R&D and quality production in Canada.
Materials Analysis Laboratory (MAL) of HKSTP positions itself with a similar vision and mandate. In this seminar, the senior managers of SSW and MAL, together with Professor KW Wong of CUHK, will speak about their recent success stories of applying their experience in surface analysis and nanotechnology to solve practical problems from frontier research to frontline production.

Ross DAVIDSON is GM of SSW. He has over 20 years of experience in managing the best one-stop problem-solving surface/materials analysis service provider in Canada.
His team output 1000 confidential analysis reports to 200 manufacturing companies in 2006, solving both problems stopping a production line and issues of product development. He is also the best SEM expert in SSW.
Silas HUNG is Manager of MAL of HKSTP. He has over 20 years on the characterization of photonics, magnetic and electronic devices and materials, and had worked for National Semiconductor (HK) Ltd Everex System (HK) Ltd and Material Characterization and Preparation Facilities (MCPF) of HKUST prior to managing MAL. He has published some 30 articles in materials research and is member of HKIE.

Leo LAU is Director of SSW and currently on-leave from SSW as chair professor of materials science at CUHK. In 93-97, he was professor of materials engineering at the University of Western Ontario.
In 1998-2002, he chaired the Physics Department at CUHK; in 2003-05, he was Dean of Science at CUHK. He has published close to 200 articles in materials research.
K W WONG is Research Assistant Professor at CUHK, with both the Physics Department and the Institute of Precision Engineering. Prior to this, he had worked for a biochip company and had managed the analysis operation of ASMAC.
He has published some 30 articles in materials research. His current interests are in nanotechnology, biotechnology, and novel materials applications in precision engineering.
