Large Quantity of Quota Left

Among 25 categories of export products to Turkey, cat 6 and cat 35 have seen the highest ratio of export, at 72.19% and 62.44% respectively. Cat 21 is third at 40.54%, and cat 161 fourth with 26.70%. As for the remaining 10 categories, export ratio is less than 10%, with no export of cat 14 to Turkey so far this year.

Exports to the US seem to be better since the Inter-ministries of Industry and Trade decided to apply an auto-visa granting scheme.

Export ratios of several hot categories proved quite high: for cat 638/639 96% of allowed volume has been exported, for cat 647/648 nearly 90%, cat 341/641 nearly 86%, and cat 338/339 84%.

The inter-ministries have decided to stop automatic visa granting for cat 638/639. However figures show that nine out of 25 categories to the US have seen export at less than 50%. For example, cat 332 has fulfilled only 10% of its quota export.

The situation was markedly different for the first 10 months of previous years, when export ratios for hot categories were high, and big exporters even had to borrow quotas from the successive year to fulfil export orders.

This year, the inter-ministries have not made any decision relating to quota borrowing as the Vietnam US agreement on textile and clothing has not been extended.

By the end of October, Vietnam had exported $2bil worth of apparel to the US, approximately the same export level for the same period of 2004. Of these, export of quota-fixed products was $1.4bil. Vietnam hopes to reach total apparel turnover of 5.2-5.4bil this year.
