The textiles committee will also act as the nodal agency for Handloom Mark. The quality certification mark for handloom products which is being created along the lines of the Silk Mark will be implemented by the textile committee. Unlike the Silk Mark which is implemented by the Silk Mark Organisation of India, a registered society sponsored by the ministry of textiles, the Handloom Mark will not have a separate body to authorise its use.

Speaking to FE, development commissioner for Handlooms, BK Sinha said, ?he ministry does not intend to set up a separate implementing agency for the Handloom Mark. The textiles committee in Mumbai will see to it.?Setting up a separate agency would mean hiring more staff and the ministry is not keen on increasing its staff size, he added.

?he Handloom Mark is in its final stages and will hopefully be introduced early next year,?he said. Earlier, speaking to FE, textile minister Shankersinh Vaghela had said that the Handloom Mark was a part of the new handloom policy which is being worked out at present.

?urveys are being conducted on weavers in order to evaluate the the working of the current handloom policy. The new handloom policy will be framed only after thoroughly evaluating the progress of the ongoing handloom policy,?he said.

The Prime Minister had on October 26 directed the textile ministry to prepare a separate policy for handloom weavers for their betterment, within 60 days.
