China : Knitting to become a history for Gen X

The International Knitting Contest to be held in January by the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Association was organized essentially to rekindle the lost interest of the youth in knitting skills.
However, so far the response so far has not been very encouraging as only 60 women have signed up for the contest and most of them are over 50.
Traditional skills in weaving and knitting are dying out and to prevent such a rapid deterioration of the age old legacy, the association has taken this small endeavor with a hope that it will continue to instill the same in the coming generations.
