China's Wool Textile and Apparel Export Down in October

Chinese Customs Bureau statistics show the aggregate volume of wool textiles and apparel exported from China fell dropped in October 2005, first time year-on-year since June.

Woollen sector is experiencing low export demand, particularly in knitwear segment while . Worsted wool fabric and women's wear showed strong demand in 2005, but slowed down in October.

In volume and value terms woollen yarn and knitwear exports retreated during October.

While knitwear exports went down in October and in January-October 2005, but June and September period grew to register volumes to EU-15 and the US markets.

China's knitwear exports over the years have shown how far they have gone with new countries being added as destination markets, which included Japan and Russia. However, here too volume and value decline were noted so far this year.

Knitwear export volumes slowed once again in September indicating embargo on imports of "sweaters" (not fibre specific) by the EU, mid-year. Further, their exports to France, Germany, Italy and Spain drastically declined year-on-year, in October.

Likewise, year-on-year export volumes of women's apparel fell during October, despite recording strong figures, early during the year. October month registered highest growth in Chinese exports of men's wear, wool top and worsted yarn.
