China's per capita fibre consumption increased to 13 kg, up five kilograms during the past five years compared to 8 kg level, up from 4.1kg during the 20 year period between 1980-2000, reported China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles.
China's textile industry progressed rapidly between the periods 2001-2005 with over 100 million Chinese farmers involved in agricultural products related to textile production.
Net export of China's textile industry reached $80.58 billion in 2004, recording a jump of 105.81 percent, up from that in 2000.
China's surplus from textile trade reached $89.29 billion for January-November period of 2005, up 25.5 percent year on year, making up 98.3 percent of the country's total trade surplus due to expiry of textile quotas at the beginning, 2005.
