BANGALORE: In a bid to make an effective foray into the Indian market, nearly 100 Chinese apparel machinery companies will turn up here this week to take part in a trade show to exhibit their products at attractive prices.
These sewing machinery manufacturers include Feiyue, Typical, SGSB, Zoje, Jack, Tongyu, Founder, Takatori, Jinyum Laser, Xingdahao, North Phoenix and Chongqing Zero.
They will participate in the "China Sewing Machinery and Accessories Show-India 2008" (CSMAS India 2008), positioned as India's largest "exclusive Chinese" apparel and allied machinery and spares trade show, from January 10 to 12.
The event, held in Shanghai every year, has for the first time moved out of China to India, recognising the importance of this country in international trade, according to Rahul Metha, President, Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI).
The event, spread across 10,000 square metres at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, will be held jointly by CMAI with the China Sewing Machinery Association (CSMA).
The focus of the exhibition would be on showcasing the latest in technology, innovative approach, competitive pricing and high productivity. China is the leader in sewing machinery manufacturing, accounting for more than 70 per cent of the total world production.
In the last two years, many Chinese companies have entered the Indian market by appointing agents, setting up representative offices and participating at machinery shows.
"The outcome of these companies has been encouraging. All these activities have been done by individual companies and hence the entire technology and image of the China Sewing Machinery Industry has not been showcased in the international markets," CSMA President Tian Minyu said.
Mehta said CMAI has been in talks with CSMA to set up a training centre in India for Chinese machinery and a spare parts centre, which would help buyers get them easily and at lower costs.
CSMA is also planning to set up warehouses in India, offering machinery off-the-shelf, as imports take six-eight weeks for delivery.
Tian also said Chinese companies would look for joint venture opportunities in India for production.
