AHMEDABAD: This could be the beginning of another Indo-US alliance, that the Chinese may not like. Close on the heels of the high-profile visit by the US President George W Bush last week, when US and India inked a nuclear deal, the Indian and American textile industries are getting together to explore possibilities of a bigger partnership.
As a part of a national event to be held this month in Ahmedabad, biggies from the textile sector will do some brainstorming to accelerate textiles exports to the US. At present, the Chinese dominate American textile imports, but Indian textile makers are seeking to expand their horizon even as the western world decries Chinese dumping.
Experts, representatives from the industry from both India as well as the US, policy-makers, technocrats and analysts will get together to discuss a number of initiatives that will have to be taken to explore possibilities to further accelerating the pace of textiles exports in the post WTO world, to the US.
