It is now estimated that growers in the Anhui Province have produced 370,000 tons of cotton in 2007/08 from 393,000 hectares or 5.9 million mu -- this volume is almost unchanged from 2006/07. Growers appear to be quite happy with the price received for their crops. Through the end of December 2007, 90 percent of the cotton crop had been procured in Anhui. The average T328 lint price has been 13,400 yuan per ton; however, the average seed cotton price has soared to 6.10 yuan per kilogram. The price of cottonseed has been the driver, with 2007 cottonseed prices reaching 2.4 yuan per kilogram, compared to 1.4 yuan per kilogram in 2006. These returns are helping maintain cotton prospects for 2008.
